Matthew Williamson for H+M

Matthew Williamson for H&M launches April 23 (my first day in NYC..can you guess the first store I'll be hitting??) Below are some preview looks from the collection. I. Am. So. Excited.

Why so serious?

I'd written a while ago about people who have fun with fashion and who don't take themselves too seriously when putting an outfit together. The young man below sporting a necklace made entirely of Legos is another perfect example of this. Not only is the necklace on trend with the season's accessory theme ((bigger is better)), it matches perfectly with his Raf Simons shoes!

AFW

My first impression of Atlantic Fashion Week, Halifax's sophomore fashion event with the F/W '09 collections, was mixed. Unfortunately, I was only able to attend the shows on Saturday night (Katrina Tuttle, Veronica MacIssac, turbine, deux fm). I can't really say I was terribly thrilled by any of the collections I saw...mildly appreciative would probably best describe my overall impressions. Don't get me wrong, I think AFW is a great initiative by Angela Sotiropoulous of City Models to showcase up-and-coming Atlantic design talent, I just wasn't blown away. Maybe my expectations were too high? Maybe I'm just used to looking at top designers' collections on style.com? Yeah, the latter reason is totally unfair of me..its comparing apples and oranges (or should I say polyester and double-faced cashmere?)

Out of the four designers whose collections I had seen, my pick for fashion-forwardness would be Katrina Tuttle. Her collection's standout pieces included a grey bubble skirt with asymmetrical folds punctuated with button detailing, and a rust-colored strapless babydoll dress with a navy blue sash held in place by a croc-embossed skinny belt. So, even if my introduction to AFW was lukewarm, I am still looking forward to attending October's S/S '10 event. As with the world's top designers, it is the documentation of each designer's sartorial evolution that is really exciting.

Below are some images of my favorite looks from over the entire 4 day

Chic-onomics

The Outnet, the designer discount site by Natalie Massenet (founder of net-a-porter) is scheduled for launch in April 2009! The site will feature "a lineup of more than 200 luxury brands including Christian Louboutin, Alberta Ferretti, Chloe, Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenberg, and Herve Leger when the proverbial doors open, a mix of merchandise from past seasons, classic pieces, and bestsellers resurrected from designers’ archives, all with average discounts of 40 to 60 percent." Though no specific launch date has been announced, The Outnet is now taking members!

Christian Lacroix Fall 2009 RTW

What a perfect thing to look at on a Monday morning. I think I just may be in love. White & silver, embellished dots, gold chain. This bag was made for me, dears!

I totally apologize for the delayed response to all of your lovely messages. I am having the most busy/stressful/no time to breath start to the week ever. Between getting multiple cups of coffee and earl gray tea, studying like a mad woman, and trips to the fabric store there has been little time for blogging. I have an economics test tonight and a textiles test tomorrow. Oh the life of a fashion student. Wish me luck!

Life

These shots remind me of stalkerazzi photos although I'm assuming the premise is looking into the daily life of a fashionable urbanite. I love the cropped cargo pant with the sequin vest.

I <3 Denim

When I found this light denim jacket at Nordstrom's for sale I instantly fell in love with it. I've been pairing it with many dresses and bright skirts since. Anyways, these pictures were taken yesterday when it was 50 perfect degrees outside. Now it is snowing! Oh, the weather is a funny thing.

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend! I am spending my Saturday afternoon watching Gossip Girl season 1, dreaming about NYC, and filling out forms for school in London. So, so much to look forward to!

PS- If you have not yet, I would really love if you'd add me on bloglovin'! :)

Landscapes

Winston Chmielinski's figures are landscapes: visual metaphors that reveal an alternate significance only in the eyes of a willing signifier. The disconnect between what is perceived and what is seen, or in the case of Winston’s portraits, the self that is reflected, and the self that is felt, can only be sutured back together in works that first fragment the physical plane—a concentration of color in one face, a plague of shadows on another—in hoping to catch (through these intentioned cracks) a fleeting glimpse of the unsheathed self. If one can chart out a surface’s entirety, even as an assemblage of seemingly incongruous pieces, will he thus render it wholly inconsequential?

All things girly

I cannot deny it. am a true girly girl at heart. Love stories, hair bows, jewels, tea parties, lipstick- cheesy as it sounds, I love it all. I think that personal style is directly represented by people's interests, hobbies and outlook on life. It continues to amaze me and inspire me of how different this is from one individual to another.

On a side note: today I had a meeting about this west coast study tour where we will be visiting Los Angelous and San Francisco. I have been beyond stoked about this trip, but the meeting today really got me excited. Especially once I found out that a trip to the American Apparel factory will be in store. I can't wait to see firsthand how the production works.

That girl

Georgia-May Jagger is like, the spitting image of a young Brigitte Bardot (and the gap in her front teeth is SO Lauren Hutton). I'm still not totally convinced that Jerry Hall is her mama. Here she is in an editorial for Vogue Russia...you can tell she has that natural coolness that all Mick's kids seem to have inherited. I can't wait to see more of her.

nothing but time

I had been looking for a men's watch exactly like this for forever. I wanted it to look vintage-y (like this one), metal links (like this one) and to not be $500 + (like this one). I found this at UO for only $42! Of course I had to shell out an extra $10 to have it sized as it was about 10 times too large for my bony wrist, but since it was such a bargain in the first place I didn't really care.

Everybody needs an ugly sweater

As I suspected, it has gotten very cold, once again. Honestly, I am completely okay with this. I do not think my winter clothing have been able to be used to their full potential in such a short amount of time. Plus, there is nothing better than putting on your favorite ugly sweater.

PS- My current camera is completely falling apart. I will be getting a new digital one soon, 400$ or less. Any suggestions?
